The Year in Review 2007/2008

Varsity Volleyball
  • Lady Lions Beat San Jacinto Sept. 20th and Oct. 9th.

  • Homecoming game against Ridgewood Thurs., Oct. 11th, Ridgewood won the first game, and Community’s Lady Lions came back and won the next 3 games for a victorious Homecoming.

  • CCS is now ranked 2nd in our zone.

  • We triumphed at district play-offs against Sugarland Logos Prepatory Academy on Mon., Oct. 16th. We won in 3 games.

 

Cross Country
  • Tyler Leifeste, Angela Royer, and Brandon Burns competed in the TAPPS state cross country meet in Waco on Sat. Oct 13th. The top ten athletes are considered ALL STATE MEDALISTS. Angela returned after a 6th place finish last year and added a 7th place medal to her state medal collection. This was Brandon and Tyler’s first year to compete. Brandon Burns finished the 5k course in 5th place, and Tyler finished in 44th.

  • Brandon and Angela both received medals and all-state honors.

Track Team Makes Tracks

Community Christian School's High School Track team makes tracks with several wins. The team consists of Amber Akhtar, Daniel Battise, Brandon Burns, Darrin Cannon, Corye James, Sarah Moseley, and Angie Royer. In their first meet, Darrin Cannon placed 1st in his heat and 5th in the 400 meter, and Angie Royer placed 4th in the mile. At the Lutheran South Meet, Darrin Cannon won the 400 meter dash, and Brandon Burns placed 2nd in the mile.

CCS Winning Athletes at Regionals

Community Christian School congratulates our winning athletes: Matthew McAfee and Brett Foster- 1st place in JH Boys' tennis Doubles, Jacob Martin- 1st place in JH Boys' Singles, Brittni James and Taylor Godwin- 3rd in JH Girls' Doubles, Aaron Rose- 3rd in Boys' Singles, Heather Battise and Angie Royer- 4th in HS Girls' Doubles. Heather Battise, Angie Royer, Katie McAfee, Donovan Armstrong, and Cody Cupit will advance to the State Tournament. At the recent Lutheran South track meet, Brandon Burns placed 2nd in the 2 mile, Darrin Cannon placed first in the 400m dash.

In the Varsity Basketball East Zone Awards, Cory Rogers placed 1st Team, Darrin Cannon and Brady Boatman placed on the 2nd Team.

For the Lady Lions- Sarah Moseley, Mallori Parrish, and Christina Pulido placed 1st Team, Katie McAfee, Heather Battise, and Katy Moseley placed 2nd Team. Community Christian School LIONS are the best!

CCS Cheerleaders Take 1st Place

Community Christian School Cheerleaders Take First Place at the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders' 8th Annual South Central Championships in Frisco, Texas. Congratulations Leah Harrington, Rainy Strickland, Lauren Leger, Jade Corbello, Rachael Hunnicutt, Brittni James, Ivey Benoit, Noella Schluter, and their sponsors Stacy Brittain and Tammy Corbello. The Junior High Girls Volleyball ended their season by capturing 1st Place.

Brandon Burns placed 5th and Angela Royer, 7th, in State Cross Country.

The HS Girls Volleyball won 3rd in District and advance to the next level of competition.

CCS Cross Country Runners Run Season's Best Times
On October 5th, the high school cross country team competed at Anahuac in their last race before the state competition. Brandon Burns nabbed 6th place with a time of 18:40 in 3 miles. Tyler Leifeste had his best finish of the season in 28th place with a time of 24:07. Angela Royer completed the two mile course with a season best of 16:25. Matthew McAfee ran a personal best in 2 miles in the junior high division with a 17:02.

The High school runners will travel to Waco this weekend to compete in the TAPPS 1A state cross country meet. Angela will be returning after a 6th place finish at state last year. This will be Brandon and Tyler’s first appearance at state.

Volleyball Wins CCS Tourny




On Friday, October 5, CCS hosted a volleyball tournament for five area junior high girls’ teams. After hours of exciting competition, the CCS Junior High girls won first place. Congratulations to our athletes and their coach, Jamie Foster.

Brandon Burns XC 7th place
Brandon Burns, a freshman from Community Christian School, debuted in his first varsity cross country race this past Saturday at Claiborne Park. Bridge City hosted the meet, and Brandon competed in the 3A and under varsity division. Brandon finished the 3 mile course in 19:44, good enough to nab 7th place.

High School Volleyball
The Community Christian School High School Volleyball team scrimmaged Ridgewood last Thursday, August 30th and came out on top, losing the first game 20-25. CCS won the next 3 games 25-6, 25-13, and 25-22 to finish the match. The highlight of the match was freshman, Mallori Parrish’s serve.

Volleyball Wins
The Community Christian School Lady Lions Varsity Volleyball team scrimmaged Sabine Pass Monday evening and squeaked by with a win. Coach, Lindsey Ferree, relives the exciting match,

“It was best 3 out of 5 and the first game Sabine Pass won 21-25. Second game Sabine Pass won 21-25. Third game we won 25-20. Fourth game we won 27-25. Fifth game you only have to play to 15 and we won 15-7. It was a great game! The girls played well as a team and did an amazing job coming back to grab the win.”

The Lady Lions will be back in action, Thursday, August 30, at home at 6:00 against Ridgewood.


August 28, 2007

X-Country
Community Christian School had one freshman runner in the Dayton cross country race (August 25, 2007). Brandon Burns earned several medals last year in junior high. His first run in high school was a success with a winning time of 12:30 in the freshman 2-mile race. His teammates will join him this weekend in the Bridge City Cross Country Meet at Claiborne Park.
