Community Christian School, organized in 1977 as a ministry of Community Church, began as one large classroom with 35 students, a teacher, and an aide. At that time, an individual-paced curriculum was used. After the second year, traditional classrooms replaced the individualized approach and the decision was made to add a grade a year through eighth grade. In 1980 the school was expanded to include a preschool and a daycare. In response to the need for Christian education at the secondary level, the board of Community Church decided to expand the school to include a junior high and high school. In May of 1989 the first graduating class, composed of six students, graduated from Community Christian School. In the summer of 1990 the Association of Christian Schools International accredited Community Christian School for kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1992 the school was accredited by ACSI for kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Community Christian School has grown from a school of thirty-five students to the present enrollment of 284. Over 200 families are represented in the school. Students come from 20 area churches and 10 communities throughout southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. The 2007-2008 school year marked our thirtieth anniversary of offering students in our area a Christian educational opportunity. Our mission is to produce students with a Biblical worldview while educating the whole student in an environment of love, care, and acceptance.
