CCS SOARS TO NEW HEIGHTS AT STATE TRACK

Community Christan traveled to Baylor University for the TAPPS State Track Meet this past week.  Senior, Ethan Berwick, brought home the 1st place gold for High Jump and Sophomore, CJ Wagner, brought home 3rd place Bronze in the 100 meter dash.  The Boys Relay got 7th place in the 400 meter and the girls received 5th place in the 400 meter relay.

Community Christian Golf Team: An Ace in the Hole

The Community Christian School golf team drives home the win on the La Loma Course at the Fort Sam Houston Golf Course TAPPS 1A District/Regional Tournament in San Antonio.  The Lion’s golf team consists of Gary Bell, Aaron Frazier, Matthew McAfee, Ryan Whitten, and Tyler Whitten and is coached by Jimmy Bell.  They sliced through the competition and placed 1st as a team, with Gary Bell placing 4th individually, Aaron Frazier 5th, and Ryan Whitten 8th.  This win makes them All District and All Regional champs and headed to State competition on April 18.

CCS Basketball Girls and Boys Honored

Community Christian School is proud to announce that Josie Jay, Mallori Parrish, Haley Brack and Samantha Leifeste have all made Academic All State for girls basketball in TAPPS.  Community is also proud to announce that Ethan Berwick and Zackery Anderson both made Academic All State for boys basketball in TAPPS.  Every one of these students have worked hard for their academic and athletic success.  To achieve Academic All State the students had to be a junior or senior, have made 1st Team All District, and have an accumulative grade average of 90 or above. 

Community Christian School Dominates Speech Competition

Community Christian came away triumphant at this year’s ACSI Speech Meet.  Each year ACSI chooses speeches from poetry, folklore/fables, patriotic speeches, and original speeches for competing students to memorize, practice pronunciation, and expression to compete in the annual meet.  Community Christian came away with the highest percentage of medals and Superior ribbons in their ACSI district.

Community Christian Honors New NHS and NJHS Inductees

Community Christian School honored their National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society inductees at their annual banquet this month.  Mr. Ronnie Lee, NHS Advisor, opened the ceremony, followed by the recognition of this year’s NHS officers.  Tenets of the National Honor Society were given by Ethan Berwick, Kayla Griffin, Haley Brack, Josie Jay and Tyler Whitten.  Mrs. Denise Block, Administrator and JH/SH Principal of CCS presented the NHS inductees with their certificates.  Subsequently the National Junior Honor Society officers were recognized by Mrs. Sharon Monk, NJHS Advisor.  Mrs. Block then presented the NJHS inductees with their certificates.

Gerdau Steel Field Trip

How do you spell field trip? 
Well, Gerdau Ameristeel's Beaumont mill definitely knows how to spell it, and how to conduct one!
 On Wednesday, March 16th, they treated Mr. Langham's Physics class to an excellent tour of their operation. Those attending were:

The Gerdau employees who acted as our main tour guides were Jeff Dyson, the rolling mill superintendent, and William Weber, the plant metallurgist.  Our students were divided into two groups and treated to an up-close and very personal look at what happens in a steel mill.
The melting process where they took scrap iron to molten metal was a dramatic and very hot sight. We were close enough to feel the heat from the 3000 degree molten steel.  We watched the pour of molten steel into the billets which were rectangular in shape and each weighed 4400 pounds. And then the billets were handled automatically thru the drawing process into small diameter wire rolls, then cooled, coiled, and stacked........all happening automatically, and in front of the students eyes!!

And, after the tour, the mill treated us to a box lunch from Jason's Deli (yumm!!), and each student received a gift bag......it was an intense learning experience that ended in a birthday-party-style lunch.

Community Christian Girls Basketball – Area Champs

The Community Christian girls basketball Area champs will be playing for the Regional championship on Saturday, February 26 at 1:45 p.m. at Houston Christian’s gym.  Mallori Parrish, Mary Ann Riley, Samantha Leifeste, Josie Jay, and Haley Brack made 1st team all-district; Jenna Procella and Hannah Breaux made 2nd all-team district.
 
The Community Christian boys basketball Area champs will also be playing for the Regional championship on Saturday, February 26 at 3:30 p.m. at Houston Christian’s gym.

CCS Math Olympians Come Away Victorious

Out of the fifteen Community Christian Olympians who participated in the Houston Area Math Olympics, eight placed in the top five, nine received Superior ribbons, and eight received Excellent ribbons.  Recipient of 1st place was Emily Breaux.  Recipients of 3rd place were Caleb Daniel, Ethan Williams, Rebecca Tibbits, and Alayna Bergeron.  Recipient of 4th place was Matthew Rainey.  Recipients of 5th place were Blaine Manucy and Marissa Gray.
Recipients of the Superior Ribbon were Brice Sylestine, Julianna Sylestine, Kaley Breaux, Jacob Carter, Caleb Daniel and Blaine Manucy, Ethan Williams, Rebecca Tibbitts and Emily Breaux.  Recipients of the Excellent Ribbon were Nate Willett, Sabrina Duprey, Jacob Rainey, Matthew Rainey, Marissa Gray and Alayna Bergeron.
Caleb Daniel also received a Gold medal.

The Community Christian boys basketball bi-district champs will be playing for Area against Harvest Christian of Edinburg on Saturday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. at their gym on 16th St.   Zack Anderson, Daniel Battise, Ethan Berwick, Matthew McAfee, Alex Parrish, and CJ Wagner made 1st team all-district, Brett Foster made 2nd all-team district and Aaron Frazier and Jacob Trevino made honorable mention.
 
The Community Christian girls basketball bi-district champs will also be playing for Area against Faith Academy of Palmhurst on Saturday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m. at their gym on 16th St.

CCS Awarded Reader’s Choice for Best Elementary and Best
Junior High

This week Community Christian School was honored by Orange County residents; CCS was voted Reader’s Choice for Best Elementary and Best Junior High for 2011.  One of Community Christian’s goals has always been to have excellence in academics, sports, and spiritual growth.  CCS recognizes that we have received this honor by the combined effort of school faculty and staff, church staff, students, and parents.

Community Christian Dominating District

For the first time in Community Christian’s history, both teams have conquered District 8 in basketball.  What an amazing accomplishment!  The Girls are TAPPS 1A District 8 Champions and will represent the district as the #1 seed in the playoffs. In district play senior Mallory Parrish led the team with 17.8 points per contest. Junior Haley Brack recorded 6.2 assists and 5 steals per game leading the team in both categories. Sophomore Mary Ann Riley led the team with 10.1 rebounds per contest. Senior Josie Jay changed the pace of the game with her stellar defense, which contributed in many fast break points to the tune of 9.3 points per game. Junior Samantha Leifeste's constant hustle on the court gave her 7.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. Contributions from the bench added to the success of the team. Hannah Breaux, Jenna Procella, Amy Benoit, Leah Harringten, and Blair Dupre all gave great efforts and added points to the score in each contest that contributed to each victory. The Lady Lions are coached by Dan Brack and Adam Strandberg.  

CCS Boys Basketball Roar all the Way to District Champs

Monday, February 7 the Community Christian boys’ basketball team stomped Family Christian with a final score of 51 to 35 claiming their title as District 8 champs.  They play Tuesday, February 15 for the Bi-District title.  The CCS Lions’ hopes are high for the Area and State title.

Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Orange Honors Community Christian Students

Community Christian School was honored by Memorial Hermann’s Partners in Education Program this month.  Around 60 students were chosen to spend a few hours at the hospital where they did crafts and delivered them to patients and staff, learned what nurses and doctors do, and were taught about good health habits.  They were served pizza, cookies, and Capri Suns for lunch.  At the close of the tour they were each given a train whistle as a gift. 

Throughout the school year representatives of the hospital and the Partners in Education Program spoke to the elementary students during their chapel.  The first week of chapel Jarren Garrett, Chief Administrative Officer, came and spoke on leadership.  Brother Kevin Trinkle, chaplain of Baptist Hospital spoke several times during elementary chapels.  The topics Brother Trinkle chose were to teach the students to have good character qualities, such as honor, thankfulness, and love.

ASCI District Spelling Bee in Sugar Land was held on January 14, 2011.

Homecoming 2011 was celebrated at CCS Saturday evening.  The boys and girls Homecoming games were Friday night and the annual Homecoming Banquet was Saturday.  The King and Queen were crowned and the court honored during the festivities.

CCS Lions Boys Basketball Off to a Roaring Start 

Orange Community Christian Lions (7-3) opened TAPPS District 8 with an 80 to 57 victory over Houston Oaks Adventist Tuesday night at The Drive Center. The Lions were paced by Alex Parrish 22 points, Daniel "The Beast" Battise 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Matthew McAfee 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lions will travel Thursday and compete against Kirbyville in The Deweyville Classic Tournament.

CCS Remembering Pearl Harbor and All Who Have Made the Ultimate Sacrifice

Community Christian School students commemorated Pearl Harbor Day by viewing a special military memorabilia collection.  Tuesday, December 07, 2010 Mr. Doug Porter of the Gulf Coast Living History presented his collection of original military uniforms ranging from the WWII to current conflicts to CCS.  Each uniform was complete with helmet and gear.  Mr. Porter is a huge history buff and has collected the uniforms over 12 years and has found them at flea markets, Ebay, and through friends who helped him search for uniforms.  His father was in service during the Korean war and was stationed in Alaska.  Mr. Porter was not in the military but wanted to have a tribute to the military, as he recognizes the sacrifice of men and women in service. 

CCS is grateful to Mr. Porter and people in our community who partner with them to educate and bring to attention the importance of showing respect, honoring, and recognizing that the freedoms and blessings we have are due to the men and women who are and who have laid their life on the line for their fellow Americans.

The uniforms, along with reproductions from the Revolutionary to Spanish-American wars, are on display at the Icehouse Museum in Silsbee.

It was a sea of red, white and blue as the Community Christian School students paraded into the auditorium for their Veterans Day Program.  Opening the program was student Lindsey Burns telling of her grandfather serving in World War II, that her brother will be joining the Marines next year, and then thanking and welcoming the visiting veterans.  Chaplain Scott McIntosh, pastor of North Orange Baptist Church, opened with prayer and told the children what a chaplain is and does.  Macy LeBlanc, Nate Willett and Ethan Williams presented the flags and Dalton Teeler, Allison Le and Blaine Manucy led the audience in pledges.  It was inspirational to see all of the veterans standing and honoring our flag and country during the pledge of allegiance.  Amaris Berwick read a moving poem that she herself wrote, followed by each class singing a song chosen by them to honor our veterans.  Songs like “You’re the Grand Old Flag”, “Yankee Doodle”, and “My Country Tis of Thee” to name a few.  Closing the ceremony was Blake Johnston singing “God Bless the USA” and Principal Laurie Beard thanking our veterans for their service to our country.  After the program the veterans were treated to a reception complete with cupcakes and punch.  It was a pleasure to honor our veterans in our program on this grand Veterans Day.

CCS Lions Gearing up for Football!

There’s a new kid in town.  Community Christian School just introduced six man Football at this week’s pep rally.  Six man football is very fast paced and very high scoring. The games are extremely exciting and CCS is elated to bring football to their school.  The Cheerleaders geared things up with cheers and stunts and really got everyone’s school spirit pumping. The CCS pep rally was a good sign of things to come with junior, Jacob Trevino, surprising the students by coming out in the new, bright blue football uniform, complete with helmet, gloves, pads, and cleats. It was fantastic to see how the student body responded to the cheerleaders and their routines, stunts and cheers. New cheer coach, Mandy Flinn did a great job as well with getting the students involved. CCS looks forward to implementing six man football to their school and all the possibilities it could bring the student body. They have a lot of work to do and money to raise to do it right, but CCS is on their way.

CCS Children with a Heart for Others: Operation Change for the Children

The final count for “Operación Change for the Children” has finally arrived.  Wednesday, October 27 was the close of the Community Christian School students’ quest to collect the most change they could to offer to the Didasko Orphanage in Honduras to assist in repairing the home, purchase any essentials and to purchase the children Christmas presents.  The dedication began with a parade of students pulling wagons filled to the brink with jugs full of change.  The smiles on their faces could attest to the excitement they had to see what their giving would amount to. 

On September 22, the student body, preschool through twelfth grade, was presented with a challenge: to bring in change to raise money for these children in Honduras.  The children had a pleasant surprise when on the big screens they were able to see and speak with the children and Rhonda Wilkinson (missionary and assistant director) through Skype.  The children from the home in Honduras sang to our students in Spanish.  Our children were touched and immediately began bringing in their change to aid in their new mission. 

Each class was given a picture of the child that they were sponsoring and have just recently sent out letters, drawings, and pictures.  The older children sent out letters that were written in both English and Spanish.  Mrs. Monk, leader of our challenge, said “God is quickening the hearts of our children and teachers toward the children of the orphanage.  Many testimonies are pouring in of children having compassion towards these orphans that have little to nothing and of our students wanting to give all that they have.  While I was counting money a penny rolled out and when I picked it up I saw that it had a little house with a heart cut out of it”.  One kindergarten student emptied his entire piggy bank, including $20 bills, and when asked how much he would like to give, he said all of it!  His reason was because they have nothing and he has all of this stuff (toys, clothes, house).  Another student asked his mom if he could have her change, but said never mind and went to his jar of change.  He took out some of it, but then he heard in his heart God saying that he should give it all.  So, he gave his entire savings.  Yet another child gave a testimony that his giving to the Didasko children has been a blessing to himself because the kids will finally be able to receive Christmas presents and all of the things that we normally take for granted.

After five weeks of gathering all of their change to offer to the Didasko Orphanage the final total is $5,087.10!  That is $1,017.42 each week that the students raised.  We are so proud of our students and their heart and drive to give to other children in need.

CCS Students Enthusiastic for Red Ribbon Week 

The students of Community Christian School really became involved in Red Ribbon week this year.  Each day had a theme that the students could get involved in and get the message.  Tuesday was “Texans Give Drugs The Boot” where the students could dress up in cowboy attire, Wednesday was “Red Day” where the students decked out all in red, Thursday was “Sock It To Drugs Day” where students wore their craziest socks and the hallways had socks strung up on clothes lines, and Friday was “Shine ‘The Light’ on a Drug Free World” where students wore neon and white clothes that glowed in the dark with the use of the black lights set up all around campus.  In class students and teachers discussed the importance of a drug free world and how it related to their own lives. 

CCS Lady Lions Honored by Renowned WOS Coach Dan Hooks

Thursday, October 28, the Community Christian Area champs, Lady Lions, had the honor to hear a motivational speech given by Coach Dan Hooks exclusively for them.  In anticipation to the Regional Champions game in Houston against Bellville Faith Academy, CCS Coach Dan Brack made a call to Coach Dan Hooks and set up the surprise for the girls.  Middle blocker, Madelyn Tran-Reno said, “I was impressed with all the former athletes who have gone on to the NFL after graduating (from WOS).  Also, I have family, friends, and a cousin who have pictures on the wall in a permanent place.  Oh, and Coach Hooks said he is keeping track of our team!”

Outside hitter, Lauren Jackson, “Overall it was a special privilege to have the experience to go into the WOS locker room to see the memories of retired players.  It was an honor to have Coach Hook tell us that it doesn’t matter if you attend a small school; if you made it past Area, you have accomplished something and no one can take it away.” 

Area Champs, CCS Lady Lions, Blazing a Trail to Regional Tournament

The mighty Community Christian School Lady Lions varsity volleyball team is clawing their way to the top.  Saturday’s Area game against Town East from San Antonio was another step in the road of marching on to State.  Their motto of “One Team, One Dream” seems to be coming true and they are pumped to get the regional tournament in Houston against Faith Academy from Bellville out of the way.  Coach Jami Foster, exclaims, “The girls played outstanding as a team.”  Look out Houston - the Lady Lions are on fire!

Operación Change for the Children‏

Community Christian School in Orange invites you to our “Operación Change for the Children” dedication for the Didasko Children’s Home in Honduras, an orphanage for abused, abandoned, and/or neglected children, on October 27 at 1:25 pm.  We are so very proud of our students whose hearts and hands are reaching out to the children of the Didasko Children’s Home.

So far, $2,700 in change has been raised from the childrens’ piggy banks, change jars, parent’s pockets, couches, grandparents, anywhere they could get change, and the change keeps pouring in.  Please consider publicizing this special project, for we are so very proud of our students and hope to make our community aware of our mission for the Didasko Children’s Home.

One Team, One Dream 

The Community Christian School Lady Lions Volleyball girls were presented at a surprise assembly with medals for All District. All District first team is Josie Jay, Ivey Benoit, Mallori Parrish, Lauren Jackson, Samantha Leifeste and Madalyn Tran-Reno.  All District second team is Haley Brack and Amy Benoit.   This is a first in Community Christian’s history that an entire team medaled in All District.  At the district meeting the vote was unanimous for each of the spots that the Community Christian girls earned. 

This year the girls’ motto is “One team, one dream” to win State.  All District senior, Josie Jay, exclaimed, “It was our goal for everyone to medal!  We fulfilled it just like we are going to fulfill our dream of going to State.  God helped us every step of the way.  One team, one dream.”

CCS Lady Lions: Undefeated District 8 Champions!

Tuesday, October 13 the Community Christian Lady Lions volleyball team swept the Family Christian Lady Warriors’ feet right out from under them.  It was a fierce three game sweep and the undefeated Lady Lions were crowned District 8 champions.  The girls are pumped to play in the Bi-District game on Tuesday, October 19 at 5:30 pm at their home gym on 16th Street in Orange.  Aside from becoming District 8 Champions seniors Amy Benoit, Mallori Parrish, and Josie Jay were honored by family, friends, and peers during senior night before the game.  Lady Lions are headed to the top!

Kindergarteners Become Firemen for a Day During Fire Prevention Week at CCS 

The Community Christian School Kindergarten class learned all about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week.  Among fire safety they learned about what our community helpers do around our community to keep us safe.  Throughout the week they had paramedic Mr. Land with the Acadian Ambulance, Officer Hogan, and firemen Brandon Godina, John Bilbo and Travis with the City of Orange Fire Department visit and tell the children who they are and what they do.  The men showed the class the tools they use and what they are for, as well as, let them walk through their vehicles, blow the horns, run the sirens, and even speak on the police car’s loud speakers. Officer Hogan taught the children about gun safety, as well. The children were allowed to sit on a stretcher and even hold the fire hose and spray water on an imaginary fire.  The men taught them to call 911 when there is an emergency and to not be afraid of them when they arrive to help.   The children were in awe of the vehicles and the men who are our every day heroes and were overjoyed to wear the badges the men handed out for them to wear.

Hard to Keep Up With CCS Lions Cross Country       

With just three meets under their belt the small 1A CCS Lion cross country team has accumulated six medals. The team consists of one senior, Brandon Burns and four junior high boys, Ethan Beard, Matthew Rainey, Josh Howard, and Jacob Rainey.
This past weekend senior, Brandon Burns raced over extreme hills and in sweltering heat to capture a 4th place title out of eighty runners at the Jasper meet. Brandon achieved a personal record time of 18:20 for the three mile course.
The junior high traveled to Nederland where Matthew Rainey placed 12th and Ethan Beard placed 17th out of a field of 53.
At their first meet at Claiborne Park, relay team Matthew and Jacob Rainey nabbed a top ten spot with 7th place medals. The following week 7th grader, Ethan Beard placed 17th with a time of 14:23.
The entire team has been working hard to lower their times each week. They are about half-way through the season with about four meets to go.

CCS Prayer Warriors at See You at the Pole

Community Christian School finds that there is power in prayer and had a great turn out for this year’s See You at the Pole.  Prayers went up for our nation and its president, for our soldiers, for their fellow students and teachers, and especially for their community and the loss of one of its own taken too soon.  The spirit and the heart of these students are an inspiration and blessing to many.

They Are The CCS Lady Lions - Hear Them Roar

Monday, September 13th, the Community Christian School Varsity Lady Lions pounded Ridgewood Lions in another 3 game sweep.  Junior Lauren Jackson served 17 points in a row against Ridgewood, sending the CCS Lions to a roaring lead.  The CCS JV team crushed St. Francis in just 2 games.  Tuesday, September 14th, the Varsity girls stomped Lighthouse, with senior Josie Jay serving 20 bombs in a row and junior Lauren Jackson serving 12.

CCS Lady Lions Volleyball: Dominating the Court

Community Christian School Varsity volleyball Lady Lions are undefeated at 6-0 in their district.  The girls have dominated the courts throughout the season and hold their own with 2A and 3A teams.  Recently the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams competed in the Livingstones Tournament in Alvin, TX.  Varsity came away with 3rd place in their bracket with Ivey Benoit taking home the “All Tournament” medal and JV competed well, with Krislon Lona taking home the “All Tournament” medal for the JV tournament.  Domination on the courts is what the Lady Lions do best.

CCS Lady Lions Volleyball: Leaving Behind a Mighty Legacy

Monday, August 30, the Community Christian School Varsity Lady Lions obliterated the 3A Lady Legacy Warriors.  The CCS JV team won 2 out of the 3 games and the CCS Varsity team won in a 3 game sweep.  Excitement is being generated for the upcoming YMBL Tournament September 9th and 10th.  The CCS 1A Lady Lions are leaving behind a mighty legacy among the TAPPS district!

Community Christian School Lady Lions Volleyball are a Force to Be Reckoned With

This past weekend, the CCS Varsity Lady Lions participated in a tournament hosted by the Evadale Rebels, and challenged every team they were up against.  This year the tournament had 16 teams which consisted of mainly public schools and included 2A and 3A schools, as well.

The CCS Lady Lions came out 6th out of 16.  The area schools are realizing that the Lady Lions’ small 1A Christian school is a force to be reckoned with. 

This team, coached by Jami Foster, has pulled together in just a few short weeks.  The future is bright for the Lady Lions, and may culminate in a spot in State Finals.
